Rush

Rush seating has been around for thousands of years and, if done properly, should be comfortable and long-lasting.

This is why we take great care in sourcing the very best of each year's rush harvest, to ensure that every chair re-rushed is to the highest possible standard.  Once rushed, the seat colouration starts off displaying varying shades of green and brown but soon fades down to the golden hues that rush seats are known for.

There are alternatives to hand-twisted rush, such as paper rush which is a pre-twisted craft paper, and reel rush, a pre-twisted rush in one continuous length...  neither of which are really suitable for high-value, good quality antique or modern seating, as they are inferior in quality.  However, as with all things, they have their place.

Please contact us for a quote requiring use of these materials.

Danish cord

Danish cord is a three-ply paper cord that has been popular in Scandinavian and Danish design since the 1950's, with designers such as Moller and Hans J. Wegner making sure that the chairs made are still as sought after now as they were then.

Danish cord patterns don't tend to deviate from the one shown in the picture on the left, apart from wishbone chairs, which follow the rush pattern.

The cost of re-cording

For single rail seats, such as the one shown on the left, are £100.00

Double railed seats are £130.00

Easy chairs are £500.00

Hans J. Wegner Wishbone seats are £130.00

For any other Danish cord needs, please ask for a quote.
